Case Study: Classic Knife Now Dishwasher Safe

A manufacturer of hand-crafted aluminum handled kitchen knives sought to expand its product line with dishwasher-safe handles. For functionality and brand identity, it was important to maintain the weight, style and feel of the traditional handle.

WHAT WE DID

In collaboration with material suppliers, Rolco researched resin options to formulate a material that would have the same specific gravity as aluminum. Creative prototype tooling and use of a heavy-weight resin made it possible for the customer to test the updated model and confidently move forward with production. RESULT

Brand identity is intact, sales are strong, and the new knives have been
well-received by customers. Production is now less labor-intensive.

ADDED VALUE

Rolco has implemented dock-to-dock transportation to ship knife blades to the Rolco facility and molded utensils to the customer for finishing. This eliminates two days of transit time each way.
