Create Soft-Touch Features with
Multishot Injection Molding
Watch Video
Multishot injection molding is an effective and efficient way to add a soft touch feature to a product that needs to have a tactile surface for comfort and control. Rotary two-shot molding chemically bonds an elastomer to a hard substrate to produce this feature while providing the best bonding and the best manufacturing consistency compared with alternative methods.
Part design, material selection and tool design are all equally important in the success of your soft touch part. The feel of the soft touch feature is due not just to the durometer of the elastomer but also to its wall thickness and the texture on the mold. The substrate should be designed for strength and stability, allowing for precise shut-offs with the second shot geometry, and the material should bond compatibly with the elastomer.
When you unite an elastomer to a rigid substrate with multishot technology, you have the potential to add permanent graphics, gaskets and seals, vibration dampening and more without adding an additional process. This makes multishot a great way to improve products while minimizing costs for:
- Knobs and button
- Electronic controls
- Joysticks
- Handles
